The Festival

Still in 1997, the Festival brought the North Americans Alito Alessi and Emery Blackwell to Brasilia to carry out the project Danceability, a pioneer in the United States in dance work with people with special needs, repeating the feat in 2004.

 

In 2005, the festival held the first “Toda Criança Dança” seminar, in Brasília, with a focus on dance education for children.

 

Since 2001 the Festival has been asserting itself as the summer dance festival in Brasília, but in celebration of its ten years of existence, in 2006 there was a winter version where the theme was dance and technology.

 

In 2007, the Festival was the first event in Brasília to break the borders of the Federal District and hold its edition in the cities of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasília.

 

In its 14th edition, in 2011, FESTIVAL was entirely dedicated to sexuality and gender issues. Shows, workshops, video shows, debates, performances packed with themes such as morality, standards of beauty, standards of behavior, limits between art and pornography and much more. In this edition, CABARET NOSTALGIQUE emerged, with decoration and costumes inspired by the French cabarets of the 40s and 50s, hosting presentations of Burlesque, Aerial Dance, Pole Dance, Belly Dance, Striptease and several other forms of dance and art that use sensuality, elegance and respect as the body's language of expression.

In its 15th edition, held in 2012, the International Festival of Novadança - Fantastic Dances aimed to discuss and reflect on the limits between dance and the limits of the body. The Festival is divided into four dance styles: Contact Improvisation, Street Dance, Aerial Dance and Pole Dance.

 

In 2013, during its 16th edition, the Festival was made up of a program of shows that thought about dance and its dramaturgy.

 

The 17th edition of the Festival took place from the 3rd to the 14th of November at Caixa Cultural, Sesc (913 South), USINA Art and Entertainment Center and at Metro Stations.

 

In its 18th edition, in 2016, the Festival brought in its programming shows and workshops that proposed new ways of integration between Nova Dança and Novo Circo. In this edition the book of photographs Festival Internacional da Novadança 20 Anos was published.

 

In its 19th edition, in 2017, the Festival The International Festival of Novadança was divided between the styles of Contemporary Dance, New Dance and Burlesque Dance.
