Editions

The Festival is a project of communication and exchange, opinion makers and improvement for dancers, choreographers, directors and dance professionals. During the past few years this project has been creating a communication network between Brazilian and foreign professionals, allowing for reflection, research development and improvement of works.

 

The Festival was created in 1996 by the artist Giovane Aguiar.

 

Over the years, internationally known artists such as Venezuelan David Zambrano, Spaniard Jordi Cortes Molina, Frenchman Jeróme Bel, Belarusian Alesia Vazmtisel, Scottish Diane Torr, Japanese Hisako Horikawa, Dutch Angélika Oei and the North -American Howard Sonenklar, Mark Tompkins, Katie Duck, Daniel Lepkoff, Lisa Nelson, Alito Alessi, Katie Duck and Karen Nelson, Brazilians Tica Lemos, Cristina Moura, Cristian Duarte, the companies Benvida Cia de Dança, ASQ Cia de Dança, Basirah, Wlap and Balangandança among others. The Festival distributed more than two thousand scholarships to dancers, choreographers, and interested parties who participated in the courses. About 15.000 people attended the presentations.

In addition, Festival was a pioneer in disseminating and encouraging production of film language known worldwide as Videodance in Brazil. In 1997, he held the first exhibition of films of this sort and in the following years promoted workshops and lectures between filmmakers and choreographers. In 1998, it held a workshop with the Dutch Angelika Oei, who together with choreographers and filmmakers from Brasilia developed several video dance projects. The Festival currently hosts the Mostra de Filmes DANCING FOR THE CAMERA and in 2006 the Festival made and financed three award-winning short films at the Mostra.
